John and Joseph streets, the railway and Lidcombe housing
Lidcombe lies about fifteen kilometres west of the city, mostly in Cumberland Council with a small industrial part in the north in the City of Parramatta. Its two main streets, John and Joseph, are named after Therry.
A railway station called Haslam’s Creek opened here in 1859, after the landowner Father John Joseph Therry and neighbouring landholders agreed to help pay for it, and Lidcombe remains a busy rail interchange.

Rookwood Cemetery and Necropolis and the former Lidcombe Hospital precinct are both heritage-listed. After the Second World War many European migrants, including a large Ukrainian community, settled here, and Lidcombe is still a centre of Ukrainian community life in Sydney.
The former industrial land near Homebush Bay later became Sydney Olympic Park. Today apartments make up a little under half of Lidcombe’s homes.
When a Lidcombe buyer is combining schemes, Links compares a panel that includes Resimac, ING, Westpac, Macquarie and ANZ.
Example scenario (illustrative, not a real client): a Lidcombe renter has made voluntary super contributions for several years under the First Home Super Saver scheme.
Before looking at apartments, they request an FHSS determination from the ATO, check the current rules on timing, and plan the release so the money arrives in time for settlement, alongside the 5% Deposit Scheme.
